How to Check Washer Inlet Hoses and Screens

Fill codes (Samsung 4C, LG IE, Frigidaire E11) usually mean water isn't getting in. Here's how to check the hoses and the small filter screens at the inlet.

Safety first: Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) before you remove panels, filters or hoses. Turn off the water supply valves before you disconnect any hose, and keep a towel and shallow pan handy. Never work on wiring, gas lines or sealed refrigerator systems yourself.
Check your model: Filter and hose locations vary. Follow your manual where it differs.

Steps

  1. Turn off both supply valves.
  2. Unplug the washer and pull it out a little.
  3. Unscrew each hose from the back of the washer (keep a towel ready).
  4. Look inside the inlet ports for small mesh screens. Check them for sediment.
  5. Rinse the screens if your manufacturer allows it. Frigidaire/Sears advise replacing the valve instead of cleaning on those models.
  6. Point each hose into a bucket and briefly open the valve to confirm strong flow.
  7. Reconnect hand-tight plus a quarter turn, open the valves, check for drips.
