Samsung Washer 4C Error Code: What It Means & How to Fix It
4C = Water is not filling. Samsung lists 4C as a not-filling error: the washer isn't getting water fast enough, or at all. Nine times out of ten it's a closed valve, a kinked hose or clogged inlet screens, and you can fix all of those yourself in about fifteen minutes.
Can you fix it yourself? Yes
Also shown as: 4E, nF, 1 4C
Quick checks (2 minutes)
- Are both water valves behind the washer fully open?
- Are the hot and cold hoses on the correct inlets (hot to hot, cold to cold)? Samsung notes a missing hot line can trigger the error even on Cold cycles.
- Is either hose bent or kinked where the washer is pushed back?
How to fix Samsung Washer 4C
- Open both supply valves all the way and leave them open while the washer runs.
- Pull the washer out a few inches and straighten any kinked hose.
- Check the drain hose too. Samsung says it should go 6–8 inches into the standpipe, no more and no less, because a badly placed drain hose can siphon water out.
- Unplug the washer (or flip the breaker) for one minute, then plug it back in and start a cycle.
- Still nothing? Shut both valves, disconnect the hoses at the back of the washer and look for debris in the inlet screens. Rinse them clean, reconnect, and reopen the valves.
Still showing 4C?
If water flows fine from the hoses and the screens are clean, the water inlet valve may be failing. Samsung recommends requesting service at that point.

{{LEAD_FORM}}FAQ
Why does my Samsung washer say 4C on a cold cycle?
Samsung notes that if the hot line isn't connected, the washer can throw the error when it tries to add hot water, even on cycles labeled Cold.
Is 4C the same as 4E?
Yes. Samsung groups 4C, 4E, nF and 1 4C together as the not-filling error.
Can low water pressure cause 4C?
Yes. Samsung UK says pressure must be between 0.5 and 8 bar, and low pressure or flow is the most common cause.
