Samsung Washer DC Error Code: What It Means & How to Fix It

DC = Door not closed/locked (or unbalanced load on some models). On most Samsung washers, dC is a door error: the washer can't detect the door as closed and locked. On some models, though, Samsung says dC means an unbalanced load, so check your manual first.

Can you fix it yourself? Yes

Also shown as: dE, dS, dC1, LO, FL

Check your model: Error codes can mean different things on different Samsung models. Find your model number (usually on a sticker inside the door or lid, or on the back) and confirm the code in your user manual.
Safety first: Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) before you remove panels, filters or hoses. Turn off the water supply valves before you disconnect any hose, and keep a towel and shallow pan handy. Never work on wiring, gas lines or sealed refrigerator systems yourself.

How to fix Samsung Washer DC

  1. Open the door, pull any fabric away from the seal and close it firmly until it clicks.
  2. If Child Lock is on, turn it off. Samsung notes the washer drains itself after about 30 seconds if the door is open with Child Lock on and water inside.
  3. Restart the cycle.
  4. If your model's manual lists dC as unbalanced, redistribute the load instead (see our UB page).

Still showing DC?

If the latch or door is damaged, or the code won't clear, Samsung recommends requesting service. A door lock assembly is the usual replacement part.

Repair or replace?

If the appliance is under warranty, call Samsung first, since a repair may be free. Out of warranty, a common rule of thumb is to compare the repair quote with the cost of a new unit and the appliance's age before deciding.

FAQ

Is dC a door error or an unbalanced error?

It depends on the model. Samsung says on some models it's a door error and on others an unbalanced load. Your user manual will say which.

Why does my FlexWash show 1dC4?

Samsung says it happens if the rubber button next to the upper washer's latch is missing, and replacing the button fixes it.
